Dorchester County Council Redistricting Plan Taking Shape

Dorchester County Council is in the process of redrawing Council districts from which members of council are elected to accommodate the population changes of the previous decade. This process is required by the Home Rule Act of 1975 and the Code of Laws of South Carolina Section 4-9-90, and is completed following the census every ten years and before the next general election (November 8, 2022). Dorchester County Council districts are redrawn by County Council, and the redistricting plan is adopted by ordinance and requires three readings with maps and/or descriptions.

Council will hold a public hearing on December 6, 2021 and consider second reading of the ordinance to approve the redistricting plan at the County Council Meeting at 6:00 PM in the Willie R. Davis Council Chambers of the Kenneth F. Waggoner Services Center, located at 201 Johnston Street in St. George, South Carolina.  Adjustments to the plan can be made by amendment by Council prior to and following second reading.

First reading of an ordinance to adopt the proposed redistricting plan was approved by County Council on November 15, 2021.

Dorchester County Council will consider third and final reading on Monday, December 13, 2021 at the County Council Meeting at 6:00 PM in the Summerville County Council Chambers located at 500 N. Main Street in the Human Services Building.
